The second annual Florida Rugby Development Summit brings together the best practices in rugby development for all coaches, referees, and administrators from across the Country.

Saturday September 12th – 12pm to 5pm

Day One of the summit will include panel discussions, keynote speakers, and on field technical workshops on a variety of topics. Every attending coach will receive Professional Development Credits towards their annual continuing education requirements for USA Rugby.

Only $40 if you register by Tuesday September 8th after the 8th the price will go up to $50 per person.  This prices includes 5 plus hours of Nationally Recognized Coach Education.

Schedule

12pm to 1pm – Pre-Course bring your own lunch round table to discuss starting a new Youth Program at your club and/or school. Focused mainly on High School and Middle School programs. This open table is for like minds to discuss how to continue to develop our sport at the young age groups.

1pm to 5pm – Coach Education – Topics: Club Management, Strength & Conditioning, Continuity & Defense.

6pm to 9pm – Social – Location to Confirmed

Coach Education Track

Four presenters, presenting on the following topics:

  • Club Management & Being Succesfull Off the Field – Evan Haigh Florida Rugby Union
  • Strength & Conditioning – Matt Mallard – Gainesville Health and Fitness,
  • Defense – Chris Oostthuizen – Florida Juice
  • Continuity of Play – Paul Vercoe – USA Rugby (Continuity as it relates to other principles of play – types of continuity – role of the coach / coaching continuity)

Matt Mallard
Director of Education and Strength Coach at Gainesville Health and Fitness, will be providing a seminar on rugby strength and conditioning as part of the FRU Coaching Development Program. Matt has a degree in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology from the University of Florida, competed with Gainesville as a prop in USAR National Playoffs, and currently competes in both Strongman and Highland Games.

Paul Verceo 
Raised in New Zealand, he has played and coached in both New Zealand and Australia. He moved to the US in the late 90’s to coach the Chicago Lions in the now defunct US Super League. Since arriving in Chicago he has coached numerous clubs including the Chicago Lions, the Chicago West Side Condors and the South Side Irish. He also coached select sides including CARFU, the Midwest, and the US U19 Boys team. Paul, has been a course leader with USA Rugby for 15 years, and am an accredited Educator and Trainer with World Rugby (Formally iRB)

Evan Haigh
Evan’s professional experience comes from all over the rugby world. He began as a Rugby Development Officer with the Australian Super Rugby team the ACT Brumbies. Over the next two years Evan traveled to England, Scotland and the USA taking on professional contracts as a player.  Which lead him to being hired as a player/coach for the English club Darlington. In 2008 he was recruited to Seattle, Washington to become the Director of Rugby for the Super League team Old Puget Sound Beach (OPSB). He took OPSB from cellar dwellers to National Champions in his final year in charge of the program. Along with running OPSB, he helped start and grow Serevi Rugby where he held the position of Director of Programming. With this role he was able to build out rugby development programs such as the Serevi Rugby Academy, International Coaching Consulting and Youth Summer Camps.

Coaching of Match Officials 1 — Referee Course 

Certification: Current USA Rugby membership, attend and participate in all course modules, pass online law exam and rugby ready exam prior to course.

Description: The purpose of this course is to introduce the concept and role of referee coaching to enable assistance and guidance to develop the referee

The course focuses on: The World Rugby Level 1 Coaching of Match Officials course aims to create a platform for developing coaches of match officials and motivate them to collect some coaching experience on their way. The course is delivered using three different modules to explain, demonstrate, practice, perform and analyze coaching skills.

Sunday September 13th – 8am to 5pm

USA Rugby – Level 200 Coaching Course

Level 200 will be the minimum certification requirement for all coaches of contact teams. That includes assistant and head coaches. This will be your first chance to complete the certification the 2015/16 Season.

This workshop is aligned with the ARM (American Rugby Model) designed to continue the learning process and education of a coach with a focus on the progressive implementation. The new coaching structure focuses on coaching the right thing at the right time with the best interest of the players at hand.

    Hola, mi nombre es Augusto Lefebvre, soy el capitán de un equipo de Rugby de Tucuman-Argentina, y estoy buscando poder organizar con algún club o equipo de rugby de Miami, un partido de 7’sevens amistoso. Nuestro equipo está integrado X un grupo de amigos de distintos clubes de mi ciudad y todos los años viajamos a diatintos países a jugar partidos amistosos (Bolivia, Cancún, islas margaritas, Cartagena, Ecuador, Panamá, Aruba) y este año vamos a viajar a Miami y nos gustaría poder hacerlo ahí también.
    Espero que se pueda jugar con uds o nos contacten con alguien para poder hacerlo.
