General Provisions:

  • Players will meet the 2023 Eligibility Criteria – 2022-23 Regs Updated for Sevens-Clean
  • Eligible teams that would like to participate in the South 7s Series must be in good standing with USA Rugby and their local South Geographic Union (GU) or a Local Area Union (LAU) by JUNE 15 at the latest
  • Any team wishing to qualify for Nationals must compete in at least two South National Qualifying Tournaments. The team that advances is the one with the most points at the end of the series.
  • Each team will be required to check in with a designated South 7s Representative with the required photo identification prior to their first match of each tournament.
  • Players may only play for one club in the tournament. A team that uses an ineligible player will forfeit that match and will be disqualified from the tournament.
  • Roster Size – see regs above for criteria. Minimum 9, max 13 per event, with no more than 12 per game
  • Player Eligibility: Teams will be able to carry rosters comprised of 9 U.S. citizens and a maximum of 3 or 4 *legally residing non-citizens at Club 7s qualifiers and the USA Rugby Club 7s National Championship. This change is to simplify individual player eligibility. * Each Roster may include a maximum of three (3) players who are not U.S. citizens or four (4) provided that one of these players is a Green Cardholder.
  • In order to be eligible for nationals, a player must play in at least 2 qualifying events
Key changes from 2022

-PR7s is formally recognized as a Professional Rugby Series in North America.
-PR7s participants are formally recognized as Professional Rugby Players.
**This does not apply for fifteens competitions for the 2022-23 season.
-Professional Player limit on Event Rosters = 4 (PR7s, MLR).
-Teams can receive one Homegrown Player waiver for one of their long-time members who also played in PR7s (so could have five Professional Players on a roster).
-Defined terms for Recognized Competitive Tournaments which, so long as approved by the Sevens Competitions Committee by May 1, can be used for player eligibility purposes – but are not team Qualifying events.
-Confirmed all events will be conducted using the 13 player event rosters, each game limited to 12 players, player interchanges limited to five moves with a player able to enter/re-enter multiple times (so long as within the permissible five moves).
